ABOUT THE EVENT

World drumming class and more offered at the Community Music School

Learning to make music not only brings years of pleasure. Research shows that music also builds skills and attitudes that lead to success
in school, work and life.

The Community Music School at the Music Center in Battle Creek is adding exciting new classes to its range of learning opportunities for all ages. Registration is now open for fall semester lessons and classes, which begin September 7.

World Drumming introduces students age 15 and up to drumming traditions from Africa, Brazil, Japan, and the Middle East. Students will also learn how to drum in Native American traditions from our region of
Michigan. Dynamic instructor Carolyn Koebel teaches music therapy at Western Michigan University and performs with jazz and world music bands and symphony orchestras around the region.

Other Community Music School offerings include private lessons with professional instructors in most band and orchestra instruments, as well as voice, guitar, and piano.

Music First classes for ages infant to 7 years build a great foundation in musical and social skills. “Compose Yourself” teaches musical composition to students 13 and up.
DrumSticks introduces children 7 to 10 to basic percussion skills. For adults, Concert Band offers fun, fellowship and exciting local
performances.

Students can register at any time before or during the semester.

Financial aid is available to families with income below $40,000. To register, call
963-1911, ext. 2585. The Community Music School is located on Fremont Street at Kellogg Community College.
